Tyla, born Tyla Laura Seethal, is a South African singer, songwriter, and dancer who became a global music sensation with her 2023 hit Water. Born and raised in Johannesburg, Tyla grew up immersed in South Africa's vibrant music scene and began her career after winning a singing competition organized by DJ Mweli. She first gained attention with her 2019 single Getting Late and steadily built a following through singles that blended amapiano, Afrobeats, and pop. Her breakout came when Water went viral on TikTok, eventually reaching #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning her the first-ever Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in February 2024.
