Actor | American
Jon Bernthal is an American actor known for his intense, physically demanding performances and his ability to bring depth to complex, often morally ambiguous characters. Born in Washington, D.C., he studied at the Moscow Art Theatre before beginning his acting career.
Bernthal first gained widespread recognition as Shane Walsh in AMC’s The Walking Dead (2010-2012, 2018). His portrayal of the conflicted survivor became one of the show’s most memorable characters. He went on to appear in films including Fury (2014), Sicario (2015), Baby Driver (2017), and Ford v Ferrari (2019).
His career reached new heights when he was cast as Frank Castle/The Punisher in Netflix’s Daredevil Season 2 (2016), a performance so acclaimed it led to his own spinoff series, The Punisher (2017-2019). Bernthal’s brutal yet sympathetic take on the character made him the definitive live-action Punisher.
In 2025-2026, Bernthal returns to the MCU in Daredevil: Born Again, bringing back his iconic portrayal of Frank Castle.
