Jeff Probst

Jeffrey Lee Probst is an American television host, executive producer, and director who is best known as the host and showrunner of the CBS reality competition series Survivor. Born in Wichita, Kansas, and raised in Bellevue, Washington, Probst developed an interest in broadcasting and storytelling from a young age. He attended Seattle Pacific University and began his career as a narrator and producer for marketing videos at Boeing before transitioning to television hosting.

Probst’s early television work included hosting the FX game show Backchat and the VH1 series Rock and Roll Jeopardy. However, his career transformed when he was selected to host Survivor in 2000. The show became a cultural phenomenon, drawing over 50 million viewers for its Season 1 finale and helping to launch the reality television boom of the early 2000s. Probst’s role as host involves leading Tribal Council, narrating challenges, and interacting with contestants, a role he has performed with consistency and skill for over two decades.

As of 2026, Survivor has aired more than 40 seasons, and Probst has been its only host throughout the show’s entire run. He also serves as an executive producer and has been instrumental in evolving the show’s format, introducing new gameplay twists, and adapting the series for modern audiences. His work on Survivor has earned him four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program. He reportedly earns around $8 million per season.

Beyond Survivor, Probst directed the feature film Finder’s Fee (2001), starring Ryan Reynolds and James Earl Jones, and briefly hosted a daytime talk show, The Jeff Probst Show, in 2012-2013. He has also been involved in philanthropic work and public speaking. His long-running success with Survivor has made him one of the most enduring and well-compensated hosts in television history.
