Chaka Khan

Chaka Khan is an American singer, songwriter, and musician widely regarded as one of the greatest vocalists in the history of popular music. Born Yvette Marie Stevens on March 23, 1953, on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, she adopted the name Chaka Khan during her teenage years while involved in the Black Panther movement. Her extraordinary vocal range, spanning nearly four octaves, and her ability to blend funk, R&B, pop, rock, and jazz has earned her the enduring title of “Queen of Funk.”

Khan first achieved fame as the lead vocalist of the funk band Rufus in the early 1970s.
