Tom Daley

Tom Daley is a British Olympic diver who has been one of the most prominent figures in world diving for over a decade. Born on May 21, 1994, in Plymouth, Devon, England, Daley began diving at the age of seven and showed exceptional talent from the start. By the time he was ten, he was already competing at national level, and at just 13 years old, he became the youngest person to qualify for the British Olympic diving team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he competed in the 10-meter platform event.

Daley’s career is highlighted by multiple Olympic medals, including his long-awaited gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (held in 2021) in the synchronized 10-meter platform event alongside Matty Lee. He also won a bronze medal in the individual 10-meter platform at the 2012 London Olympics and another bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics, demonstrating remarkable longevity in a physically demanding sport. He has won multiple World Championship and European Championship medals, establishing himself as one of Britain’s greatest ever divers.

He gained viral fame during the Tokyo Olympics when he was photographed knitting in the stands between events, which led to the launch of his knitting brand, Made with Love by Tom Daley, selling patterns and kits that became enormously popular.

Daley is also a prominent LGBTQ+ advocate, having come out publicly in 2013. He married Academy Award-winning screenwriter and director Dustin Lance Black in 2017, and together they have a son. His openness about his sexuality and his advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights in sports have made him an important role model.
