Sandra Annette Bullock was born on July 26, 1964, in Arlington, Virginia. Her mother, Helga Mathilde Meyer, was a German opera singer and voice teacher, and her father, John Wilson Bullock, was an American voice teacher and part-time singer. Bullock spent much of her childhood in Nuremberg, Germany, where she frequently appeared in her mother’s opera productions. She is fluent in German and grew up immersed in the performing arts. After returning to the United States, she attended East Carolina University and later moved to New York City to pursue acting.

Bullock’s breakthrough came with the action thriller Speed (1994), in which she starred alongside Keanu Reeves. The film’s massive commercial success, grossing over $350 million worldwide, transformed her into one of Hollywood’s most sought-after leading ladies.
