Born on August 25, 1968, in Glens Falls, New York, she grew up in a food-loving family. Her mother, Elsa Providenza Scuderi, managed several restaurants in New York’s Capital District, and Ray grew up immersed in the food service industry. After moving to New York City, she worked at the Macy’s candy counter and later at a gourmet food market called Agata and Valentina.

Ray’s big break came while working at a gourmet food store in Albany, New York, where she began teaching “30 Minute Meals” cooking classes to boost grocery sales. A local TV station invited her to demonstrate her quick recipes on air, which led to a segment on the Today show. Food Network executives noticed her natural charisma and approachable style, and in 2001, she debuted “30 Minute Meals” on the Food Network.
