Mickey Guyton

Mickey Guyton, born Candace Mickey Guyton on June 17, 1983, in Arlington, Texas, is an American country music singer and songwriter who has broken barriers as one of the most prominent Black women in country music. Raised in a musical family, she grew up listening to both gospel and country music, drawing inspiration from artists like Dolly Parton, LeAnn Rimes, and Whitney Houston. She moved to Nashville to pursue her country music dreams and signed with Capitol Records Nashville in 2011.

Guyton’s early career in Nashville was marked by a slow build. Her debut single “Better Than You Left Me” was released in 2015 and received positive reviews, earning her recognition as one of country music’s rising stars. However, it was her 2020 single “Black Like Me,” written in response to social justice movements and her own experiences with racism in the country music industry, that became her breakthrough moment.
