Michelle Branch

Michelle Branch is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist who rose to fame in the early 2000s as one of the defining voices of the pop-rock genre. Born on July 2, 1983, in Sedona, Arizona, Branch began playing guitar at age 14 after being inspired by the Lilith Fair movement and artists like Alanis Morissette and Sheryl Crow. She independently recorded and released a demo album, “Broken Bracelet,” at just 15 years old, which caught the attention of Maverick Records, the label co-owned by Madonna.

Branch’s debut major-label album, “The Spirit Room” (2001), was a massive commercial success, reaching double-platinum certification in the United States. The album produced hit singles including “Everywhere” and “All You Wanted,” both of which reached the top 15 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her follow-up album, “Hotel Paper” (2003), debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. She also collaborated with Carlos Santana on “The Game of Love,” which won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals in 2003.

After a period of relative quiet in the late 2000s and early 2010s, during which she explored country music with the duo The Wreckers alongside Jessica Harp, Branch returned to her pop-rock roots. The Wreckers’ single “Leave the Pieces” reached number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Branch continued writing and recording, releasing “Hopeless Romantic” in 2017 under Verve Records, which was praised by critics as a strong return to form.
