Matt Smith

Matt Smith is a British actor best known for playing the Eleventh Doctor in “Doctor Who” (2010-2013), Prince Philip in “The Crown” (2016-2017), and Prince Daemon Targaryen in “House of the Dragon” (2022-present). Born in Northampton, England, he originally trained as a footballer before an injury redirected him to acting.

Smith studied drama at the University of East Anglia and trained at the National Youth Theatre. At 26, he became the youngest actor to play the Doctor, a role that made him an international star. His portrayal was noted for combining youthful energy with an old soul’s wisdom.

His transition to darker, more complex roles came with “The Crown,” where his Emmy-nominated portrayal of Prince Philip showcased his dramatic range. In “House of the Dragon,” he plays the morally ambiguous Daemon Targaryen, becoming a fan favorite with his charismatic yet dangerous performance.
