Karamo Brown

Karamo Brown is an American television personality, author, and activist who serves as the culture expert on Netflix’s hit series Queer Eye. Born on November 2, 1980, in Houston, Texas, Karamo first appeared on television in 2004 as a cast member on MTV’s The Real World: Philadelphia, where he made history as the first openly gay African American man on reality television. This groundbreaking appearance set the tone for a career dedicated to visibility, authenticity, and helping others.

After The Real World, Karamo stepped away from entertainment to focus on social work. He earned a degree in social work and spent nearly a decade working as a licensed psychotherapist and social worker in Texas and Florida. During this time, he discovered he had a biological son, Jason, from a previous relationship, and later adopted Jason’s half-brother Chris.
