Jesse Rutherford

Jesse James Rutherford is an American singer, songwriter, and actor best known as the lead vocalist of the indie rock band The Neighbourhood (stylized as The NBHD). Born on August 21, 1991, in Newbury Park, California, he grew up in the Conejo Valley area of Ventura County. He began his creative pursuits early, appearing in films and television as a child actor, with a notable role in the 2005 film “Bunny Whipped” and appearances on various TV shows.

Rutherford co-founded The Neighbourhood in 2011 in Newbury Park with guitarist Zach Abels, guitarist/keyboardist Jeremy Freedman, bassist Mikey Margott, and drummer Brandon Alexander Fried. The band’s breakout single “Sweater Weather” was released in 2012 and became a massive hit, eventually reaching number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and becoming a viral sensation on TikTok years later. The song has accumulated billions of streams and remains one of the most iconic alternative tracks of the 2010s.

The Neighbourhood released several albums including “I Love You.” (2013), “Wiped Out!” (2015), “Hard to Imagine the Neighbourhood Ever Changing” (2018), and “Chip Chrome & the Mono-Tones” (2020). Rutherford has also pursued solo music under his own name, releasing EPs and singles that explore hip-hop, pop, and R&B influences separate from the band’s sound.
