Holly Holm

Holly Renee Holm is an American mixed martial artist and former professional boxer who became one of the most celebrated combat sports athletes of her era. Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Holm initially pursued aerobics and soccer before discovering boxing as a teenager. She quickly excelled in the ring, compiling an extraordinary professional boxing record of 33-2-3 and winning multiple world titles across three weight classes, including the WBC, WBA, and IBA welterweight and light middleweight championships.

Holm transitioned to mixed martial arts in 2011, making her professional MMA debut at age 30. Despite being considered a late starter in MMA, her elite striking, footwork, and disciplined training regimen allowed her to adapt quickly. She compiled a strong record in regional promotions before signing with the UFC in 2015. Her discipline and striking precision earned her the nickname ‘The Preacher’s Daughter,’ a reference to her father, who is a minister.

On November 15, 2015, Holm delivered one of the biggest upsets in UFC history when she defeated the previously unbeaten Ronda Rousey via a devastating head kick knockout in the second round at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia, to claim the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship. The fight drew worldwide attention and is considered one of the defining moments in women’s MMA history. Though she lost the title in her next fight to Miesha Tate, Holm remained a top contender in the bantamweight division for years.

Throughout her MMA career, Holm has faced some of the best fighters in the world, including Amanda Nunes, Valentina Shevchenko, and Cris Cyborg. While she did not recapture UFC gold, her consistent presence as a top-ranked contender and her historic victory over Rousey cemented her legacy.
