G Herbo

G Herbo, born Herbert Randall Wright III, is an American rapper from the South Side of Chicago who has become one of the most respected voices in modern hip-hop. Growing up in the Terrortown neighborhood of East Side Chicago, he was exposed to gang violence and poverty from a young age, experiences that would deeply influence his music. He began rapping as a teenager under the name Lil Herb and quickly gained attention in the Chicago drill music scene that was emerging in the early 2010s.

His breakout came with the 2012 track “Kill Shit” featuring fellow Chicago rapper Lil Bibby, which became a viral sensation and put both rappers on the national hip-hop map. Under the name Lil Herb, he released the critically acclaimed mixtape Welcome to Fazoland (2014), named after a slain friend, which showcased his raw storytelling ability and unflinching depictions of life on Chicago’s South Side. The project earned praise from critics and established him as one of the most authentic new voices in hip-hop.

After rebranding as G Herbo, he released a series of successful projects including Humble Beast (2017), his official debut album, which debuted at number 21 on the Billboard 200. Subsequent albums PTSD (2020) and Survivor’s Remorse (2022) further cemented his reputation as a thoughtful and introspective rapper. PTSD, which featured collaborations with Chance the Rapper, Juice WRLD, and Lil Uzi Vert, was particularly significant for its exploration of mental health and trauma, topics often stigmatized in hip-hop culture.

Beyond music, G Herbo has been an advocate for mental health awareness, particularly within underserved communities. He founded Swervin’ Through Stress, a mental health initiative aimed at providing resources and support for young people dealing with trauma and PTSD. Despite facing legal challenges, he has continued to release music and expand his brand, maintaining a dedicated fanbase that appreciates his authenticity and growth as an artist.
