Cynthia Nixon

Cynthia Nixon is an acclaimed American actress, activist, and former political candidate best known for her role as Miranda Hobbes in HBO’s Sex and the City. Born on April 9, 1966, in New York City, Nixon began acting professionally as a child, making her Broadway debut at age 12 in The Philadelphia Story. She grew up on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and attended Hunter College High School before earning a degree from Barnard College, the women’s college affiliated with Columbia University.

Nixon built an impressive theater career before achieving television stardom. She appeared in numerous Broadway productions and earned critical acclaim for her stage work. Her career-defining television role came in 1998 when she was cast as the cynical, career-driven lawyer Miranda Hobbes in Sex and the City.
