Padma Lakshmi

Padma Lakshmi is an Indian-American television personality, model, author, and activist best known as the host and executive producer of Bravo’s Emmy-winning culinary competition series Top Chef. Born in Chennai, India, she immigrated to the United States at age four and grew up in New York City. She studied theater arts at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, and began her career as a model in her early twenties, working in Europe and appearing in campaigns for major fashion brands including Roberto Cavalli and Ralph Lauren.

Lakshmi transitioned from modeling to food media, publishing her first cookbook “Easy Exotic” in 1999, which won the Gourmand World Cookbook Award. She joined Top Chef as host in Season 2 in 2006, replacing Katie Lee, and quickly became the face of the franchise. Under her hosting and executive producing tenure, Top Chef became one of Bravo’s most successful shows, earning multiple Emmy Awards. She was previously married to author Salman Rushdie from 2004 to 2007 and has a daughter, Krishna, born in 2010.
