George Strait

George Strait, born George Harvey Strait Sr. on May 18, 1952, in Poteet, Texas, is widely regarded as the “King of Country” and one of the most successful and influential country music artists of all time. Raised on a cattle ranch in the small town of Pearsall, Texas, Strait developed a love for traditional country music from an early age. After a stint in the U.S. Army where he began performing in a country band called Rambling Country, he returned to Texas and formed the Ace in the Hole Band, playing honky-tonks and dance halls throughout the state while studying agriculture at Southwest Texas State University.

Strait’s recording career began in 1981 when he signed with MCA Nashville Records and released his debut single “Unwound,” which reached the top ten on the country charts. From that point on, his career was nothing short of extraordinary. He has released over 30 studio albums and has charted more number-one singles than any other artist in any genre of music, with 60 number-one hits on the Billboard country charts. His total of 44 number-one country albums is also a record. Some of his most beloved songs include “Amarillo by Morning,” “The Chair,” “Ocean Front Property,” “All My Ex’s Live in Texas,” and “Check Yes or No.”

Strait’s concert career has been equally impressive. His “Cowboy Rides Away” farewell tour in 2012-2014 culminated in a record-breaking final show at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, attended by over 104,000 fans, setting the record for the largest indoor concert in North American history at the time. Despite officially retiring from regular touring, Strait has continued to perform through highly lucrative residency shows at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and select festival appearances. These shows consistently sell out and command premium ticket prices, generating millions in revenue.
