Tyler the Creator

Tyler, the Creator, born Tyler Gregory Okonma, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and fashion designer who has evolved from provocative underground rapper to one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful artists in modern music. Born in Ladera Heights, California, Tyler co-founded the hip-hop collective Odd Future (OFWGKTA) in 2007, which became one of the most influential groups in hip-hop through their raw, boundary-pushing music and DIY internet-savvy approach to building an audience.

Tyler’s debut mixtape “Bastard” (2009) and debut album “Goblin” (2011) established him as a controversial but undeniably talented artist. As he matured, his music evolved dramatically. “Wolf” (2013) and “Cherry Bomb” (2015) showed increasing musicality and ambition. The creative breakthrough came with “Flower Boy” (2017), a deeply personal album that explored themes of loneliness, identity, and unrequited love, earning him his first Grammy nomination and widespread critical acclaim.

His fifth album, “Igor” (2019), marked a radical artistic departure, blending soul, funk, R&B, and synth-pop into a conceptual breakup album. “Igor” won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, though Tyler himself noted the album transcended genre categories. He followed this with “Call Me If You Get Lost” (2021), which won another Grammy for Best Rap Album, making him one of the few artists to win the award for consecutive releases. His seventh album, “Chromakopia” (2024), debuted at number one and continued his streak of critical acclaim.

Beyond music, Tyler has built a significant fashion empire. His brand Golf Wang, launched in 2011, has grown from a streetwear label into a respected fashion brand. He also created the Golf le Fleur luxury lifestyle brand, which includes clothing, fragrances, and accessories. His annual Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival music festival has become one of the most popular boutique festivals in the country. Tyler’s diverse creative output across music, fashion, and visual art has made him one of the most influential cultural figures of his generation.
