Young Thug

Young Thug is an American rapper and singer who became one of the most influential voices in hip-hop during the 2010s and 2020s. Born Jeffery Lamar Williams on August 16, 1991, in Atlanta, Georgia, he grew up in the Sylvan Hills neighborhood on the city’s south side. He began releasing music independently in 2011 with his “I Came from Nothing” mixtape series, and his unconventional vocal style and genre-blending approach quickly drew attention from the hip-hop community.

His career gained significant momentum with the 2013 single “Stoner” and subsequent collaboration with Gucci Mane and Rich Homie Quan on “Lifestyle,” which peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. Young Thug’s commercial mixtapes “Barter 6” (2015) and “Slime Season” series established him as a creative force, while his debut studio album “So Much Fun” (2019) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum. The album featured the massive hit “The London” with J. Cole and Travis Scott.

Young Thug founded YSL Records (Young Stoner Life Records), which signed artists including Gunna, Lil Keed, and Lil Baby at various points. The label’s compilation album “Slime Language 2” debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in 2021. His fashion-forward image and willingness to push boundaries in hip-hop aesthetics have made him a style icon, leading to partnerships with various fashion brands.

In May 2022, Young Thug was arrested on RICO charges in Georgia along with several YSL associates, leading to one of the longest criminal trials in the state’s history. The trial, which began in late 2023, drew massive public attention and had significant implications for the use of rap lyrics as evidence in criminal proceedings. In late 2024, he reached a plea deal that included probation and community service. The legal proceedings significantly impacted his earning potential and public activities during this period.
