Will Smith is an American actor, producer, and rapper who is one of the most commercially successful entertainers in history. Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Smith first gained fame as half of the hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, winning the first-ever Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in 1989 for “Parents Just Don’t Understand.” His charisma and crossover appeal led to the NBC sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” (1990-1996), which made him a television icon and established him as one of the most likable personalities in entertainment.

Smith’s transition from television to film was remarkably successful.
