Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is an American track and field athlete widely regarded as one of the greatest hurdlers in the history of the sport. Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, she grew up in a family of runners — her father Willie McLaughlin was a semi-finalist in the 400 meters at the 1984 Olympic Trials, and her brother Taylor McLaughlin competed in the 400-meter hurdles at the collegiate level. Sydney showed extraordinary talent from a young age, breaking multiple age-group records throughout her youth career.

McLaughlin-Levrone first gained national attention when she qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics at just 16 years old, becoming the youngest American track and field athlete to compete at the Olympics since 1972. She went on to attend the University of Kentucky, where she won NCAA titles and was named the U.S. Track and Field Athlete of the Year. She turned professional after her freshman year, signing with New Balance and later beginning to train under legendary coach Bob Kersee.
