Olivia Isabel Rodrigo is an American singer, songwriter, and actress who became a global pop sensation virtually overnight with the release of her debut single “drivers license” in January 2021. Born on February 20, 2003, in Temecula, California, Rodrigo is of Filipino and German-Irish descent. She began acting as a child, landing her first major role as Paige Olvera on the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark in 2016, followed by her breakthrough acting role as Nini Salazar-Roberts on Disney+’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Rodrigo’s music career exploded when “drivers license” was released on January 8, 2021. The song broke Spotify’s record for most streams in a single day multiple times during its first week and debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Her debut album, SOUR, released in May 2021, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and produced additional hit singles including “good 4 u” (also number one on the Hot 100) and “deja vu.” SOUR was certified multi-platinum worldwide and became one of the best-selling albums of 2021.

At the 2022 Grammy Awards, Rodrigo won three awards: Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album for SOUR, and Best Pop Solo Performance for “drivers license.” Her second album, GUTS, released in September 2023, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and was led by the single “vampire,” which debuted at number one on the Hot 100. The album showcased a more rock-influenced sound while maintaining her signature confessional songwriting. Her GUTS World Tour in 2024 was a massive commercial success, selling out arenas worldwide.

Beyond music, Rodrigo has been an advocate for social causes, visiting the White House in 2021 to promote COVID-19 vaccination among young people.
