Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, known professionally as Megan Thee Stallion, is an American rapper, songwriter, and entrepreneur who has become one of the most prominent female rappers of her generation. Born on February 15, 1995, in San Antonio, Texas, and raised in Houston, she was introduced to hip-hop through her mother, Holly Thomas, who rapped under the name Holly-Wood. Megan began writing raps at age 16 and gained a following by sharing freestyle videos on social media while attending Prairie View A&M University and later Texas Southern University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in health administration in 2021.

Megan’s career took off with a series of mixtapes and viral moments, beginning with “Big Ole Freak” from her 2018 EP Tina Snow, which became her first Billboard Hot 100 entry. Her 2019 mixtape Fever introduced the cultural phenomenon of “Hot Girl Summer,” a phrase that became a ubiquitous social media trend and was later turned into a hit single featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla Sign. Her debut studio album, Good News, released in November 2020, debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and featured the massive hit “Body” as well as her chart-topping collaboration with Beyonce, “Savage” (Remix).

Her collaboration with Cardi B on “WAP” in 2020 became one of the most talked-about songs of the decade, debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and sparking widespread cultural conversation. At the 2021 Grammy Awards, Megan won three awards: Best New Artist, Best Rap Song for “Savage” (Remix), and Best Rap Performance. Her second album, Traumazine (2022), and third album, Megan (2024), further showcased her versatility and resilience as an artist.

Beyond music, Megan has built an impressive business portfolio. She has endorsement deals with Nike, Revlon, Popeyes, and Cash App, among others. She launched her own hot sauce brand, Hottie Sauce, in partnership with Popeyes. She is also known for her advocacy around mental health, education, and women’s empowerment. Despite facing personal challenges including the 2020 shooting incident involving Tory Lanez (who was convicted and sentenced in 2023), Megan has continued to thrive both personally and professionally.
