John Legend, born John Roger Stephens on December 28, 1978, in Springfield, Ohio, is a multi-award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer who has become one of the most respected artists in contemporary R&B and pop music. A child prodigy, he began playing piano at age four and was singing in his church choir by age seven. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania at just 20 years old with a degree in English, where he also directed an a cappella group. After college, he worked as a management consultant while pursuing music on the side.
