Gunna

Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, known professionally as Gunna, was born on June 14, 1993, in College Park, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. Growing up in a musically inclined family, he was drawn to hip-hop from a young age, influenced by the sounds of the Atlanta rap scene that surrounded him. He began making music as a teenager, initially going by the name Yung Sergio before adopting the stage name Gunna. His early mixtapes caught the attention of Young Thug, who became his mentor and signed him to YSL Records.

Gunna’s breakthrough came through a series of collaborative projects and mixtapes, most notably “Drip Season” (2016), “Drip Season 2” (2017), and “Drip or Drown” (2017). His melodic trap style, characterized by smooth vocals over lush production, quickly gained a massive following. His collaboration with Lil Baby on the 2018 mixtape “Drip Harder” produced the hit “Drip Too Hard,” which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and eventually achieved Diamond certification. This collaboration cemented his status as one of Atlanta’s most promising new artists.

His debut studio album “Drip or Drown 2” (2019) debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, and his second album “Wunna” (2020) reached number one. The album showcased his artistic growth and featured hits like “Skybox” and collaborations with Travis Scott, Young Thug, and Roddy Ricch. His third album “DS4EVER” (2022) also debuted at number one, competing with The Weeknd for the top spot.

In May 2022, Gunna was arrested and indicted along with Young Thug and 26 others on RICO charges related to YSL (Young Slime Life). He took a controversial plea deal in December 2022, pleading guilty to a racketeering charge in exchange for a time-served sentence and release. The plea deal was met with mixed reactions in the hip-hop community. After his release, Gunna worked to rebuild his career and public image, releasing new music and gradually reconnecting with fans. As of 2026, his net worth is estimated at $4 million.
