21 Savage, born Sheyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph on October 22, 1992, in London, England, rose from the streets of Atlanta to become one of hip-hop’s most influential voices. He moved to Atlanta at age seven and grew up in the Decatur area, where he experienced the harsh realities of street life. After surviving a shooting on his 21st birthday in 2013 that killed his best friend, he channeled his experiences into music, adopting the stage name 21 Savage. His early mixtapes, including “The Slaughter Tape” and “Slaughter King,” released in 2015, showcased his signature deadpan delivery and unflinching lyrical content.

His breakthrough came with the 2016 collaborative EP “Savage Mode” with producer Metro Boomin, which spawned the hit “X” featuring Future. This project established him as a major force in trap music. His debut studio album “Issa Album” (2017) debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, featuring the platinum single “Bank Account.” He continued his momentum with “I Am > I Was” in 2018, which debuted at number one and included collaborations with J. Cole, Post Malone, and Childish Gambino.

In February 2019, 21 Savage made international headlines when ICE arrested him, revealing he was actually a British citizen who had overstayed his visa. The incident sparked a massive public debate about immigration and garnered support from fans and fellow artists worldwide. He was eventually granted a U visa and continued his career. His collaborative album “Savage Mode II” with Metro Boomin in 2020 debuted at number one and was certified platinum, featuring the hit “Runnin.”

21 Savage has built his $16 million fortune through album sales, streaming revenue, touring, and smart business moves. He founded the Slaughter Gang Entertainment label and has invested in financial literacy programs for youth through his Bank Account initiative. His 2024 album “American Dream” explored his immigration story and debuted at number one. Beyond music, he has been recognized for his philanthropic efforts, hosting annual back-to-school drives in Atlanta and promoting financial education in underserved communities.
