Mike Shinoda

Mike Shinoda is an American musician, record producer, and artist best known as the co-founder, vocalist, rapper, keyboardist, and rhythm guitarist of Linkin Park, one of the best-selling rock bands of the 21st century. Born in Agoura Hills, California, to a Japanese American father and a European American mother, Shinoda studied graphic design and illustration at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena while simultaneously developing his musical career. His unique ability to blend hip-hop, rock, and electronic elements helped define Linkin Park’s genre-defying sound.

Linkin Park’s debut album “Hybrid Theory” (2000) became a cultural phenomenon, selling over 30 million copies worldwide and becoming the best-selling debut album of the 21st century. The follow-up, “Meteora” (2003), debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and sold over 27 million copies. Shinoda was instrumental in crafting the band’s sound and co-wrote the majority of their songs with vocalist Chester Bennington. Over six studio albums, Linkin Park sold over 100 million records worldwide, won two Grammy Awards, and became one of the most successful rock acts in history.

Following the tragic passing of Chester Bennington in 2017, Shinoda released the deeply personal solo album “Post Traumatic” (2018) as a way of processing his grief. The album was critically acclaimed and showed a more vulnerable, introspective side of the artist. He also continued his work with Fort Minor, his hip-hop side project known for the hit “Remember the Name.” In 2024, Linkin Park returned with new vocalist Emily Armstrong and drummer Colin Young, releasing the album “From Zero” which debuted at number one in multiple countries, proving the band’s enduring relevance.

Beyond music, Shinoda is an accomplished visual artist whose work has been exhibited in galleries worldwide. He has created album artwork for numerous projects and has ventured into the NFT and digital art space. He is also involved in various business ventures and has produced tracks for other artists.
