Nile Rodgers

Nile Rodgers is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer who has shaped the sound of popular music across five decades. Born on September 19, 1952, in New York City, Rodgers grew up in a bohemian household and was exposed to diverse musical influences from an early age. He co-founded the iconic disco and funk band Chic with bassist Bernard Edwards in 1977, and together they created some of the most enduring dance music ever recorded, including “Le Freak,” which became the best-selling single in the history of Atlantic Records, and “Good Times,” whose bassline was famously sampled by the Sugarhill Gang for “Rapper’s Delight.”

Beyond Chic, Rodgers became one of the most sought-after producers in the music industry. His production credits read like a history of popular music: David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” (1983), Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” (1984), Diana Ross’s “Diana” (1980), and Duran Duran’s “Notorious” (1986), among countless others. He has produced, written, or performed on records that have collectively sold over 500 million copies worldwide, making him one of the most successful music creators in history. Rodgers experienced a major career resurgence in the 2010s when he collaborated with Daft Punk on “Get Lucky” (2013), which became one of the biggest hits of the decade and won multiple Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year.
