Val Chmerkovskiy is a Ukrainian-American professional dancer and television personality who rose to fame as one of the most popular pros on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Born in Odessa, Ukraine, he emigrated to the United States with his family at the age of eight. Growing up in New Jersey alongside his older brother Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Val immersed himself in competitive ballroom dancing from a young age, winning numerous junior championships and developing a reputation as one of the most technically gifted Latin dancers of his generation.
