J.I.D is an American rapper and singer from Atlanta, Georgia, widely regarded as one of the most technically skilled rappers of his generation. Born Destin Choice Route, he grew up in East Atlanta and was a standout football player in high school, earning a scholarship to Hampton University. After losing his scholarship, he turned fully to music, developing his rapid-fire delivery and intricate wordplay that would become his signature.

J.I.D gained attention in Atlanta’s underground hip-hop scene and caught the ear of J. Cole, who signed him to Dreamville Records in 2017.
