Sonny John Moore, known professionally as Skrillex, is an American DJ, record producer, and musician who is widely credited as one of the most influential figures in electronic dance music. Born on January 15, 1988, in Los Angeles, California, he first entered the music scene as the lead vocalist of the post-hardcore band From First to Last, which he joined at age 16. The band released two albums with Moore as frontman before vocal cord issues led him to leave and pursue electronic music production.

Skrillex’s transition to EDM in 2010 proved revolutionary. His debut EP “My Name Is Skrillex” was released as a free download and immediately generated massive buzz. His follow-up EPs “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” (2010) and “Bangarang” (2011) essentially brought dubstep and bass music into the mainstream, with the title tracks becoming defining anthems of the electronic music boom of the early 2010s. “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” alone won three Grammy Awards, and “Bangarang” won two more, making him one of the most Grammy-decorated electronic artists ever.

Beyond his solo work, Skrillex co-founded the OWSLA record label in 2011, which has been instrumental in launching the careers of numerous electronic artists. He has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including co-producing Justin Bieber’s mega-hit “Where Are U Now” with Diplo (as Jack U), which won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording. He has also worked with Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, Ty Dolla Sign, and many others as a sought-after producer.

By 2026, Skrillex’s estimated net worth is approximately $50 million. His 2023 double album release (“Quest for Fire” and “Don’t Get Too Close”) marked a triumphant return after years of relative quiet, and his continued touring commands some of the highest DJ fees in the industry.
