Michelle Dockery

Michelle Suzanne Dockery was born on December 15, 1981, in Rush Green, Romford, in the London Borough of Havering, England. She was raised in a working-class family, the youngest of three daughters, with her father Michael working as a lorry driver. Dockery showed an early passion for performing and attended the Chadwell Heath Academy before training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, one of London’s most prestigious drama conservatories, graduating in 2004.

Dockerdy began her career on the stage, performing with the National Theatre and the Manchester Royal Exchange. She earned critical acclaim for her theater work, including roles in “Pillars of the Community” (2005) and “Pygmalion” (2008). Her international breakthrough came when she was cast as Lady Mary Crawley in Julian Fellowes’s period drama “Downton Abbey” (2010-2015). The role earned her a Golden Globe nomination, three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of the ensemble cast.
