Mikaela Shiffrin

Mikaela Shiffrin is an American alpine skier who holds the all-time record for the most World Cup victories in the history of the sport. Born on March 13, 1995, in Vail, Colorado, Shiffrin was introduced to skiing at a young age by her parents, Jeff and Eileen Shiffrin, both of whom were accomplished skiers. Growing up in the mountains of Colorado provided the perfect environment for her to develop the technical precision and competitive drive that would make her the greatest slalom skier of all time.

Shiffrin made history at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics when she won the gold medal in slalom at just 18 years old, becoming the youngest Olympic slalom champion in history. She followed this with another gold medal in giant slalom at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics and a silver in the combined event. On the World Cup circuit, Shiffrin has been virtually unstoppable, surpassing Ingemar Stenmark’s long-standing record of 86 World Cup victories in 2023 and continuing to add to her tally. She has won multiple World Championship titles across slalom, giant slalom, super-G, and combined events.

Her career has not been without challenges. The tragic death of her father Jeff Shiffrin in February 2020 deeply affected her, and she took time away from competition to grieve and recover. She also faced a significant knee injury during the 2024 season that required careful rehabilitation. Through these adversities, Shiffrin has demonstrated remarkable resilience, returning to competition and continuing to add to her record-breaking victory total.

Beyond prize money, Shiffrin has built her wealth through endorsement deals with major brands including Barilla, Adidas, and Longines. She is engaged to Norwegian alpine skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, and the couple is one of the most prominent pairs in winter sports. Shiffrin has used her platform to advocate for mental health awareness and has been open about her own struggles, inspiring athletes around the world.
