Micheal Ray Stevenson, professionally known as Tyga (an acronym for Thank You God Always), is an American rapper who has maintained relevance in hip-hop for over 15 years. Born on November 19, 1989, in Compton, California, he is of Vietnamese and Jamaican descent. He first gained attention in 2008 with his debut single “Coconut Juice” and his appearance on the song “Rack City” predecessor tracks, but it was his independent work and mixtapes that built his early following in the Los Angeles rap scene.

Tyga’s mainstream breakthrough came with the release of “Rack City” in 2011, which peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the defining club anthems of the year. He signed with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment and Cash Money Records, releasing albums “Careless World: Rise of the Last King” (2012) and “Hotel California” (2013).
